Styles include Japanese, Formal English, Country or Cottage, Container
Gardening, Ponds and more. Since
we live in the Chicago
area, I do like to put an emphasis on winter interest. Why copy your neighbor jamming a bunch of
evergreens around the perimeter? Think elegant! We suggest grasses, berries, rose hips, interesting branch
structures,
etc.. think beyond the evergreen. Naturalized Styles: These designs fit into the Midwestern landscapes that we live
in. Naturally occurring landscapes in this area
include Prairies, Woodlands, Oak Savannahs, and Bogs. The
lakefront was originally dunes. Cultivated
varieties of native plants are used as much as possible. Naturalized
styles can include Backyard Habitats. DogWould targets the three “B’s”. These are Bats, Birds & Butterflies. Butterfly Gardens can include plant material for the larval or caterpillar stage, along with flowering plants to attract adult insects. Including plant material for larval butterflies is an important gesture, since so much land is cleared for development. Eco-Friendly Mosquito Control: All local bats are insectivores. If you don’t like mosquitoes, learn to like bats. Most bats migrate into the area for the summer, then return south for the winter. There are a couple of species that stay year round. Whether they migrate or not, they look for specifically sized spaces to sleep during the day. We also like to encourage native frogs and salamanders, but since they don’t fly, it may be a long wait for them to show up. Pet Friendly Landscaping:
We offer strategies to incorporate your pet’s behavior and things that you want to use your outdoor space for. We Do Not change your pet’s behavior or offer training. We incorporate what the animal is doing, with what you would like to be doing.
This year we will be offering Cat Enclosures. This is a way to let you cat enjoy the outside, without the risks of letting them wander off. Pet friendly yards and Back Yard Habitats are usually exclusive to each other.
